Type 2 gearbox codes and Ratios...

Well... thats the plan! - Anyone have the information? -I'm trying!

There doesn't seem to be a conclusive list anywhere... so I've started compiling this list...

Research so far is confusing.... some indication can be gained from counting the strengthening ribs that go across the Gearbox box above the CV joints..

3 rib = Std 1600cc "002" '1967 - 6/73 ish (there are 2 types - The Early one that isn't supported over the bell housing and the later type that is ('72 on)

5 rib = rare-ish 6/73-1975 ish 3.78 ratio 1st gear Stronger than the 3.80. These are not as strong as the 6-ribs, but they are stronger than the 3-rib transmissions.

6 rib = 2L "091" 1976-80 ish

any comments?

"A type 4 engine (17,18,2000) will go onto a 1600 box no probs. gearboxes for type 4 engines have a slightly longer input shaft so a 1600 won't fit onto that."

there are people who'll say grind the shaft down, but i fell that's a bit of a waste and it's no big deal to remove bellhousing and change the shaft..

shaft goes further into Type 4 lump. but bell housings (1600s as well!) were seemingly all a bit longer after 75............. with a different (longer throw) starter motor too!
